The number of COVID-19 patients being hospitalized in Massachusetts rose for the third straight day following weeks of declining numbers as the virus-related death toll continues to rise.

Twenty new patients were admitted to Massachusetts hospitals, according to the latest data from the State Department of Health, bringing the total to 628 still being treated for COVID-19.

A total of 106,349 COVID-19 tests were administered statewide, resulting in 1,865 newly confirmed infections as the seven-day rolling positivity rate for those tested rose slightly to 2.23 percent.

The 54 new COVID-19 fatalities brought the total to 16,632 in Massachusetts since the pandemic began more than a year ago.

Health officials in Massachusetts are currently monitoring more than 27,000 advice COVID-19 cases, up nearly 400 from the previous day. There have now been a total of approximately 584,024 confirmed cases of the virus in the past 12 months.

Here's the latest rundown of cases for the five counties in Daily Voice's coverage area:

  • Worcester County: 69,053 total confirmed cases (2,120 in the past two weeks);
  • Hampden County: 44,607 (1,645);
  • Hampshire County: 8,105 (394)
  • Berkshire County: 5,254 (289);
  • Franklin County: 2,136 (91).
